Jorge Martin closed the first day of the Indonesian Grand Prix with the fourth time, just behind his teammate Johann Zarco, third. Both were overtaken by the pair of factory Yamaha riders. The Spaniard, who crashed in Qatar because he was involved in the accident with Pecco Bagnaia, ensured that he had recovered from the blow to his hand and that he felt good on the bike.
“During the morning the track was not in good condition and I didn’t want to push to avoid taking risks, so I was a little behind in the times table. But in the afternoon I got in front right away, I had good sensations and above all I was constant, which is perhaps a little bit what we had in Qatar. We found some confidence at the front, which is a bit what we were looking for, so I’m very happy in this sense, ”explained the Pramac rider.
The new Ducati GP22 that the two Pramac riders have, together with the factory riders and that of Luca Marini, mounts the new front lowering device that works in motion during the lap. This novelty was also discussed in the Safety Commission because other manufacturers are trying to make it prohibited. However, this new device is not appealing to all the Borgo Panigale drivers, with Pecco Bagnaia having also already discarded the 2022 engine by betting on a hybrid version tested in the Jerez tests last year.
Martin, who mounts the latest evolution of the Ducati engine, explained his feelings by answering a question from Motorsport.com: “We are working on it, now I have a bike with the device and another without, unlike Qatar, where I had mounted it on both bikes ”.
“We are trying to understand to what extent it is better or worse, in general others are discarding it, but Zarco and I will continue to use it at the moment and decide how much he can bring us and how much not, because it is clear that in Qatar we lacked it. something. Above all there is a lot of work to do to put it into action, the team has to work many hours to make it work and we need to see how far it helps us. We have to draw conclusions and we hope that this weekend will be the decisive one to decide on a bike that will be the same for the whole year ”.
It seems that Bagnaia, who has already discarded the 2022 engine, has decided not to use this new device designed by Gigi Dall’Igna: “I know that someone is no longer using it, Enea Bastianini does not have it because he has the ‘last year and both we and the factory team are trying it out. But I don’t know to what extent they keep it or not ”.
