As in all weekends of the season, Jorge Martin gained direct access to Q2 on a complicated Friday for many drivers on a very high speed track which caused some difficulties for the championship leader. “It was a bit like in Barcelona, where on Friday I struggled a little more, but we managed to get through to direct Q2, which is the most important thing,” underlined the Pramac rider at the end of the day. “In terms of pace we are up there with the best, I think we just need to improve the time attack a little,” he explained ahead of Q2 on Saturday.
The one who didn’t make a mistake was Pecco Bagnaia, who lowered the time to almost touch the record of last year’s pole position. “He made a great time, I think in terms of pace we are quite similar. I couldn’t see Marc Marquez’s data, but I think that with the soft tire at the start he went very fast. Now we need to look at what tires the rest of the riders worked with to understand everyone’s pace,” he explained. “The morning session didn’t go well, nothing was working. With the soft tire it was complicated, but I wasn’t worried because I knew that with the medium tire everything would work in the afternoon. I felt at ease.”

After a very intense Thursday full of news and rumours, getting back on the motorbike was relaxing for Martin: “It’s clear that with the motorbike you have fun in a different way. I prefer to be on a motorbike driving rather than being outside dodging bullets (i.e. journalists’ questions, ed.). But you have to accept it, it’s part of the job and I’m also happy to do it.”
One of the hot topics on Thursday was Marc Marquez’s categorical “no” to Pramac, Martin’s current team, who was asked for his opinion on the matter: “There’s not much else to say, the year last year it was the best team in the world, first in the team ranking, with that I said it all. It’s the best team in MotoGP at the moment.”
Martin has always shown that he is a rock and that he is not influenced by rumors and news, negative or positive. However, in the last few hours the rumor has been gaining ground that Pramac would leave Ducati to go to Yamaha. This could end up influencing Paolo Campinoti’s team members when there are still many races left before the end of the season.
Martin, however, does not believe that this situation will arise: “This morning Gino Borsoi said that the team will continue with Ducati next year, ask him. These rumors won’t influence anyone, the team doesn’t care if it works with a Ducati, a Yamaha or a Kawasaki.” When asked who will lose the most in this situation between Pramac and Marquez, Martin deflected by replying: “Ask him.”
