Two weeks after showing his best performance at Le Mans, where both on Saturday, in the Sprint, and on Sunday, in the long race, he started from 13th position and crossed the finish line second, in Montmeló, in front of his fans, Marc Marquez achieved even better, equaling the same result despite starting from a further back position (14th).
Although there were three crashes in front of him, all involving riders who were leading the race at the time of the accident, Marc Marquez played his cards well, did what he had to do at all times and took home a super prize. In full battle with Jorge Martín for the second official Ducati of 2025, the Gresini Racing rider finished the Sprint as the first representative of the Italian manufacturer, despite being astride a Demosedici from last year.
“This is a much more unexpected podium than the one at Le Mans. There I had the pace, here I thought there was nothing more than what I had shown in practice”, summed up Marquez, who with this result and Pecco’s fall Bagnaia, on the last lap and while he was leading, rises to second place in the World Championship, in which he is now 37 points behind Martin, who finished in fourth place.
“It’s super important to have finished the race as the first Ducati. When you complete your first year with a new bike, there are things you don’t have control over, and that’s what happened yesterday. But it’s all the fruit of knowledge,” added number 93, who missed out on Q2 in the morning.
“This morning we made a change on the bike, in the direction of the other Ducatis. This is the advantage of having the data of many bikes. I’m very happy, but I’m already thinking about tomorrow, when I’ll start 14th again”, continued the multiple champion, who seems to have resumed the habit of getting on the podium.
“The important thing is that I’m having fun, that I’m in front and that I can overtake,” said the Catalan, who doesn’t seem to have been affected by the fact that he was forced to run the entire Sprint without his left front wing, which had flown away after a collision with Brad Binder on the first lap.
“When a wing breaks, the bike goes a little sideways on the straights. But one of my strengths is adapting to all situations. I didn’t think about it and I didn’t make a mistake, so maybe tomorrow we’ll start without a wing”, Marquez joked.
