MotoGP | Marquez begins his recovery, the bone is consolidating

Six weeks have now passed since Marc Marquez underwent surgery for the fourth time on his right arm, battered by the injury at the Jerez GP in 2020. A first checkup one month after surgery had given positive results and today they continue to arrive good news: the bone is welding well and the recovery continues in a linear fashion.

The Honda rider made a check-up visit yesterday and the HRC team provided an update on the condition of his spearhead. There is great optimism in the Repsol team and finally Marc is smiling again. The road to recovery is still long, but this second visit to six weeks of surgery has given a positive outcome.

The humerus is therefore consolidating and finally Marquez can remove the brace that we had seen him wear in the last month and a half. The eight-time world champion had decided to fly to the United States to undergo surgery in the hope of finally putting an end to this ordeal and it seems that the road to recovery is now headed. The Spaniard will therefore begin physiotherapy and will be able to start training again.

The Repsol Honda team thus issued a statement in which both the rider and the doctor speak, and Marc Marquez himself published a post on his social networks in which, with a big smile, he gets rid of his arm brace: “We did a important step forward in the recovery process. In this second visit, the doctors confirmed that the humerus is consolidating properly, so we can start physiotherapy on the right arm and cardio training. I am thrilled to regain the mobility of my arm to continue the recovery process and I want to thank all the medical staff for their care and attention ”.

Doctor Sanchez Sotelo, Head of the Department of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Madrid states: “In the medical examination carried out on Marc Marquez six weeks after surgery on his right humerus, a good clinical evolution was confirmed and that allows the progress of the recovery program of mobility and strength of the right arm. The patient will undergo a further check-up in the next six weeks “.

In the press release released by Honda this morning there is no mention of a return, of course. Marc Marquez played his last race at the end of May, at Mugello. In fact, on the occasion of the Italian Grand Prix, he announced that he wanted to stop to have an operation and conclude once and for all the unfinished business he has with his right arm. The goal of the multiple world champion is to get back on the saddle in 2023. During these six weeks he has kept the fans updated by also showing the ugly scar on his arm with posts on social media, but continuing to reassure morale that he is good and with a clear goal: to get back to racing to be competitive again.
