When there are three riders of the caliber of Jorge Martin, Marc Marquez and Enea Bastianini competing for a single seat, it is inevitable that this becomes the most debated topic of the moment in MotoGP. Also because the saddle in question is the most coveted, that of the official Ducati team alongside the reigning champion Pecco Bagnaia.
What now seems almost certain for practically everyone is that the one who has the least chance of all is the current owner of that side of the garage, namely Enea Bastianini. But the paddock is literally divided regarding the fate of the other two: there are those who would like a dream team with 11 world titles, seeing Marquez dressed in red.
But there are also those who think in a more corporate way, underlining that Martin would be the most logical choice: he is younger, he has been “bred” by Ducati in the last four years and is probably also the fastest rider on the entire grid for 12 months now (from Le Mans to Le Mans he won 6 GPs and 12 Sprints).
Then there are those who have also tried to look further, suggesting a scenario that could allow the Borgo Panigale manufacturer to keep both and it is someone who also knows quite well the arguments being made at the gates of Bologna, because it is Jorge Lorenzo , who raced in Red in 2017 and 2018.

“Ducati would like to keep all four. The ideal for them would be to dress all four in red, but it’s not possible due to the regulations, so they have to choose one. I think they will be able to keep three, while one will go away. I think Jorge will he will leave if he doesn’t wear red. Bastianini will also leave if he is relegated”, said Lorenzo during an in-depth analysis on DAZN, for which he is a commentator today.
“The only one they could keep without making him wear red is Marc Marquez, but giving him a 2025 bike. The most logical thing, to keep at least three of the four, would be to put Martin in red and Marquez on a bike exactly the same as Bagnaia’s and Martin, but in Gresini with Red Bull, or in Pramac Racing, if he stays with Ducati. This is my theory”, he added.
And, in this sense, the eight-time world champion also gave an assist on Sunday, who after finishing the French Grand Prix in second place, behind Martin, said without mincing words: “Next year I want to try to have the latest evolution, any bike, any color and any brand.” Which is to say that he would accept not being dressed in red if he had the GP25.
Now, however, it’s a matter of weeks, because the deadline could be Mugello and then the knots would have to be resolved…
