More than ten years ago, Spanish motorcycling was divided into two factions. Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa were the icons of the national sport in MotoGP, although their rivalry on the track raised tensions to the point that the King of Spain himself had to intervene to force them to shake hands during the 2008 Jerez race.
Much later, the tension seems to have eased and, although one of the two is no longer on the bike, they share the DAZN microphones as Grand Prix analysts. However, their paths seem destined to cross again, not on the asphalt or in the commentary booth, but in the ring.
The Mallorcan challenged the Barcelonan to a boxing match in the club where he trains and made it known through his social networks: “Well, Dani (Pedrosa), as you've seen, these days I've started training with boxing. As you know, I like a challenge, and fifteen years ago we had our ups and downs both on and off the track, and now that this celebrity challenge thing is all the rage, I've come up with a bit of a crazy challenge.”
“I challenge you here, at the Grand Price in Barcelona, ββin this boxing club, in a fight behind closed doors, which will be broadcast on my YouTube channel, DURALAVITA, and I challenge you, I hope you accept it, and I'll see you here, on this ring,β Jorge Lorenzo said in a recording on his Instagram account.
Shortly afterwards, already prepared for his participation as a wild card in the Spanish Grand Prix, Dani Pedrosa responded with a smile and a few words of encouragement: “Hello, Jorge (Lorenzo). The truth is that I just saw your video, which surprised me on the way to Jerez. At first I thought it was a pretty crazy idea, but it's also true that right now I'm in good shape and I don't deny that the temptation to give you a couple of shots is quite important, so I accept your challenge. Tell me the date and time and I'll see you in the ring.”
It therefore seems that the duel that has so excited fans from all over the world in MotoGP will be repeated, but it could also be a strategy to attract attention and to ensure that both collaborate on the podcast that the Majorcan has. It is therefore very likely that the two will have an interesting chat about DURALAVITA before putting on the boxing gloves, although who knows if they will actually face each other.
