Lin Jarvis is 66 years old and has spent the last 26 years at the helm of Yamaha's racing department. As director of the Japanese brand, the Briton played a very relevant role in the company's rebirth since the mid-2000s. Together with Davide Brivio he was able to convince Valentino Rossi to join the project in 2004, when the The Tavullia rider was the reference on the grid with Honda.
With Rossi spearheading Jarvis, Yamaha won the title in 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009, before entering the Jorge Lorenzo era, with whom he won in 2010, 2012 and 2015. After a period dominated by Marc Marquez (six titles in seven years between 2013 and 2019), Fabio Quartararo brought the crown back to Iwata in 2021, for a total of eight world titles obtained by Yamaha under the guidance of Jarvis.
One of the Briton's latest masterpieces was signing Quartararo's renewal, announced last week. The next objective he has in front of him is to reach an agreement with some independent team to recover the satellite team that Yamaha had to give up after the failed renewal with RNF at the beginning of 2023.
“This will be my last season with Yamaha, which I will leave at the end of the year. I will decide later what to do, what I will dedicate my time to,” Jarvis revealed this Thursday in an interview granted to Motorsport.com and which took place in the Yamaha office in Austin. “I started in the factory team in 1999. It was an unusually long stage. I'm already 66 years old and I'm starting to get a little tired of travelling. I have been doing this job for 26 years and it is quite extraordinary that the same person leads a project in a factory for such a long period. The time has come to do something new”, added the director who is based in Italy, where the racing department of the Japanese brand has its headquarters.

“It is the ideal time to complete this transition. We must be able to close my chapter and begin a new one in harmony. This is the best solution for both parties. We have already identified the candidate who will certainly become my successor, even if it has not yet been made official. But he will be a name from the Yamaha group, who will take my position from January next year, ”commented Jarvis. Although the Briton did not want to reveal his name, Motorsport.com understands that the ideal candidate is Paolo Pavesio, current director of marketing and racing department of Yamaha Europe. The Italian is a homebody, very attached to racing and a regular at Superbike and Motocross races.
