Thanks to the postponement of the Kazakhstan Grand Prix to September, when it will fill the hole left free by the cancellation of the Indian one, MotoGP is experiencing its second consecutive Sunday without races. With the Superbike World Championship taking place on the Misano track, it was therefore an excellent opportunity for Gigi Dall’Igna to see first-hand how things are going at Ducati among the production derivatives.
However, for the general director of the Borgo Panigale racing department it was also an opportunity to comment on the domino effect that generated the signing of Marc Marquez, who will become an official rider for the Rossa starting from 2025, joining Pecco Bagnaia. An agreement that led Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini to leave the orbit of the Bolognese brand to land in Aprilia and KTM respectively.
Ducati, therefore, will find itself facing fiercer competition next year, but for Dall’Igna it is not a surprise: “More or less we knew what the others’ moves were, it was already taken for granted. It certainly won’t be easy, because the our opponents have strengthened, but we already knew this, so we will have to work”, he told Sky Sport MotoGP.
A situation that will certainly allow the competition to have more fearsome line-ups (KTM has also taken Maverick Vinales, who will join Bastianini in the Tech3 team), but the engineer from Veneto does not seem worried about the risk of seeing the technical secrets of the Red team revealed: “As I have always said, it is the technicians who bring the information. The riders can give comments, make comparisons with the bikes they rode before, but a rider rarely brings technical secrets with him.”

Now, however, another important issue remains to be resolved and it is that relating to the future of Prima Pramac Racing, which must decide whether to continue with Ducati or give in to the court of Yamaha, with the most recent clues which seem to lead in the second direction, precisely because the structure Tuscany has been shocked by the latest developments in the drivers’ market.
As Dall’Igna also confirmed, Paolo Campinoti has the ball at the moment and in Borgo Panigale they can only wait for his choice (the renewal is automatic unless Pramac decides to exit a contract that would guarantee him two GP25s) , although the hope is that it can continue to field two Desmosedici GPs in the next two years.
“There are no updates, even if the time is almost over, so sooner or later we will have to decide. It is clear that the solution is not in our hands, so we just have to wait in this case. There is a historicity, because we have done many things together. It is a friendship, so I really hope that Campinoti will make the decision to stay with us”, concluded Dall’Igna.
