We have reached the halfway point of this 2024 MotoE season, which held its fourth round at Mugello. The Tuscan event was a triumph for the Italian drivers, who scored two one-two finishes: Race 1 (postponed to the end of the day) was won by Mattia Casadei ahead of Kevin Zannoni, while in Race 2 the positions were reversed.
There was no shortage of thrills in the first heat, with a bad fall in Bucine for Lucas Tulovic. The Dynavolt team driver remained on the ground and was helped on the track, so the race was interrupted and restarted at the end of the day due to the tight schedule once the condition of the German was ascertained, who was then declared out of danger. Therefore, Race 1 turned into Race 2, while what was supposed to be the second heat was played regularly.
Even in the home round the Italians dominated, confirming their excessive power in the championship. Kevin Zannoni triumphed in Race 2 (held before Race 1) ahead of his direct rival in the standings Mattia Casadei. The two arrived at the finish line separated by less than three tenths at the finish line and the LCR driver prevailed in the last race of the weekend ahead of Alessando Zaccone, thus also taking the top spot in the championship.
Completing the podium in Race 2 we find Eric Granado, third behind teammate Casadei. In Race 1, however, it was Hector Garzo who took the third step of the podium. Granado and Garzo deprived the Italians of a hat-trick, preceding Roccoli and Zannoni respectively.
The MotoE flies to Assen for the fifth round of the season, where the challenge for the world championship will be renewed: Casadei will arrive in Holland as leader with 132 points and a 6 point advantage over Zannoni, second.
