MotoE confirms itself as a land of conquest for Italy, which seems to dominate on every track and with every rider. In Barcelona there was once again a lot of Italy on the podium, despite the home crowd celebrating Oscar Gutierrez’s first career victory in Race 1. But it was Kevin Zannoni who presented himself as the championship leader after the success of Race 2.
The weekend wasn’t going to be easy for the Aspar rider, who started from eighth place. However, in the first heat which took place on Saturday morning he recovered five positions to climb onto the third step of the podium. Zannoni was an exceptional spectator of the duel between Oscar Gutierrez and Eric Granado, with the LCR team driver second at the finish line by just 131 thousandths.
First victory for the Spaniard from the Axxis-MSI team, who tried to replicate the success in Race 2 too, but was unable to stop Zannoni’s excessive power. Always starting from the third row, the Aspar standard-bearer recovered to win and take the lead in the general classification. In the second heat, an excellent Alessandro Zaccone climbed to the third step of the podium, remaining just over a second behind the winner.
Complicated weekend for the now former championship leader Nicholas Spinelli. In Race 1 he wasn’t even able to finish the first lap due to a fall at the last corner and was forced to retire. Same fate in the second heat, this time on the fourth lap. Double zero for the Tech 3 team driver, who slips to fourth place in the standings.
The next appointment with the MotoE will be at Mugello, the home round for many riders. Zannoni presents himself as the leader with 88 points, just one point ahead of second, Mattia Casadei. Very short classification, because Gutierrez is third just two points behind Zannoni. Spinelli is fourth, while Andrea Mantovani is seventh in the general. Alessandro Zaccone and Matteo Ferrari conclude the top 10. Kevin Manfredi is 12th ahead of Roccoli, 13th. Alessio Finelli is 15th, Armando Pontone 18th.
