In 2019 Booth-Amos raced for the CIP Greenpower team in the Moto3 class, riding a KTM, scoring 10 points in a debut season in the World Championship with more lows than highs.
The Brit was not renewed for 2020 and moved into the World Superbike paddock to compete first in the Supersport 300 – in which he won three races – before moving up to the main World Supersport class this year.
On Friday, a video of the 2019 Thailand GP surfaced on social media, when Booth-Amos was racing in Moto3, in which a member of his team can be seen repeatedly hitting him in the garage.
Booth-Amos commented on the video on social media, stating that the episode dates back to after his retirement from the Thailand GP, which occurred due to a motorcycle problem caused by a mechanic.
He added that this was not the only problem that occurred behind the scenes at Team CIP, but said he had kept quiet about it at the time because he hoped to stay in the MotoGP paddock for 2020.
The full statement from Booth-Amos reads: “The video that appeared dates from the 2019 Thailand Grand Prix”.
“That year there were a lot of problems with the team that was never talked about, and I stayed silent just to try and keep my place for the 2020 season, as my dream was to stay in that paddock. “.
“It happened after the race, when my bike broke down due to a mistake by the mechanic, and I was asked to say nothing and shut up.”
“I’ve never told anyone, not even Dorna and my management back then. It’s just one of the things that happened that year. People don’t know what’s going on behind the TV screen.”
Motorsport.com reached out to the CIP team for comment on the video and a response to Booth-Amos’ statement. Motorsport.com also contacted the Max Racing Team, with whom the offending team member allegedly works now. At the moment, however, he has not received any answers.
MotoGP has not yet commented on the story, but a source suggests that an investigation will likely be launched.
