On the territory of Karelia, by 2031, it is planned to expand more than 100 km of federal highways to four lanes. The bulk of the work will be on the R-21 Kola highway.
According to the press service of Uprdor “Kola”, the documentation for the construction of the section from the 406th to the 422nd km of the road has already been developed. It will become a continuation of the bypass of the village of Matrosy in the Pryazha region and will allow the transit transport to be withdrawn from the village of Polovina and the village of Vilga in the Prionezh region, news agency writes. In addition, in 2022 it is planned to complete the design of the overhaul of the Kola sections from km 436 to 446, from km 446 to 461, as well as the A-215 Lodeynoye Pole – Vytegra – Prokshino – Plesetsk – Brin road Navolok – entrance to Petrozavodsk from the 132nd to the 147th km.
The works are included in the Concept for the Development of the Federal Road Network and Improving Traffic Safety.
In addition, a proposal has already been sent to include in the plan of design and survey work for the construction of a bypass of Petrozavodsk with a length of 17 km. The section will connect two entrances to the capital of the republic: from the Kola highway and the entrance leading from the south as part of the A-215 highway. The work is expected to take place between 2029 and 2035.
