Qualifying report
As in this morning’s Formula 3 qualifying, the fight for pole position in Formula 2 was also contested following a ad hoc format for the cadet category of the Circus in the Principality: in order to avoid excessive traffic on the Monaco circuit, the test was carried out by dividing two groups lasting 16 minutes made up of eleven drivers each. The pole position, in this case, is reserved for fastest driver ever on the trackwith the front row completed by the author of the fastest time in the ‘slowest’ group, and so on alternating until the end.
A story, that of F2 qualifying, which in some respects recalled that seen in F3. In fact, in Group A, there were no interruptions due to accidents (despite the huge risk taken by Hadjar, who with impressive quick reflexes dodged Miyata’s car in the tunnel), with Richard Verschoor who stopped the clock on1:21.283. A time that allowed the Dutchman from Trident to conquer his first pole position in Formula 2given the results of Group B. The session, interrupted after six minutes due to Villagomez’s impact with the barriers at the exit of Sainte Devote, ended with the best performance of Victor Martins, insufficient to beat Verschoor’s time but still useful to be able to start from the front row in Sunday’s Feature Race. The Prema, meanwhile, are disappointing Antonelli did not go beyond position la fourth position in Group A (equivalent to seventh place on the grid) Bearman did even worse, only 6th.
