Unbeatable Minì
Two pole positions and two consecutive victories: this is the extraordinary score of Gabriele Mini in the Principality of Monaco in the last two years in Formula 3, with this year’s success also allowing the Palermo native to leap at the top of the Drivers’ standings. An all-Italian replacement at the top, which sees Minì overtake Leonardo Fornaroli, now 3rd behind Luke Browning, the latter finishing behind the Sicilian and Christian Mansell in the Monegasque Feature.
Race report
Minì practically never lost his lead from the start to the checkered flag, defending himself from the constant pressure of Christian Mansell even after restarts due to the arrival of the Safety Car. The first intervened already on the first lap to remove Charlie Wurz’s car from the Portier, with the green flags from the 3rd lap which generated a fracture between the 5th place of Fornaroli and his direct pursuer Beganovic, with very few overtakings from that moment until the 20th lap. On that occasion, in fact, the safety car returned to the track a second time due to contact between Tsolov and Noel, with Meguetounif remaining involved in the accident and the only one of the three drivers forced to retire. Immediately after the restart, which took place on lap 23, the third collision with the barriers occurred, this time by Van Hoepen. The Dutchman, at the entrance to the Tobacconist, completely lost control of the car and left his ninth position to Loake, obtained after cutting the Nouvelle Chicane. The quick intervention of the course marshals allowed the drivers to carry out the last lap regularly, here too with the top-3 remaining unchanged until the checkered flag. This is Minì’s second podium of the season, with Formula 3 set to restart its engines in just under a month in Barcelona, from 21 to 23 June.
