DThe outgoing left-wing faction leader and chairwoman of the “Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht” association, Amira Mohamed Ali, has ruled out the inclusion of AfD politicians in the planned Wagenknecht party. When asked whether politicians who are currently with the AfD would be an opportunity to recruit the necessary staff, she said on Tuesday on the Welt channel: “No, for God’s sake, that’s unimaginable, a change from the AfD now in our party, that won’t happen, we won’t allow that either.”
They want to stay in the group
But not everyone who might have once voted for the AfD is lost to democracy. “But for God’s sake, a change from the AfD faction to a new group – no, that won’t happen.”
Despite the planned founding of a new party, Wagenknecht and her colleagues want to remain in the left-wing faction in the Bundestag for the foreseeable future. “Of course we will try to keep the group going for as long as possible,” said Wagenknecht on Monday evening on ARD Tagesthemen. This is also “in the interest of the employees” of the group, which is threatened with dissolution due to the party split.
Wagenknecht announced on Monday that he would found a new party in January. Together with nine other MPs, she has already announced that she is leaving the “The Left” party. However, the breakaways do not want to give back their Bundestag mandates, and they also want to continue to belong to the Left faction for the time being.
