In 2023, mobile games, therefore for smartphones and tablets, represented 49% of total revenues generated globally by the gaming industry, reaching i 90.4 billion dollars. This data was revealed by the latest report from the company Adjust, which shows for the umpteenth time how mobile gaming is now dominant.
The study takes into account a period ranging from January 2022 to January 2024. According to the findings, revenues from in-game players grew 6% compared to the previous year, while consumer spending fell 2%, reaching $107 billion.
The dominant market
The top five gaming applications, read games, in terms of spending they were Candy Crush Saga, Honor of Kings, Roblox, Royal Match and Coin Master, which also appear in the top 10 of general applications. Adjust estimates that ad spending will reach $103 billion in 2024 and $131 billion in 2025.
However, there are also some negative data, because installations and gaming sessions on mobile systems decreased by 2% and 7% respectively, with a 7% year-over-year increase recorded in the fourth quarter of 2023 alone. LATAM saw the largest increase (19%), followed by EMEA (12%), North America (6%) and APAC (3%).
Speaking of global downloads last year, Subway Surfers positioned itself at the top of the table, followed by Free Fire, Roblox, Ludo King and Candy Crush Saga. The most loved genres turned out to be action, with a share of 18% of installations, followed by casual, hyper casual and stinks at 14%). Action games were also the most played, with the session rate at 27%, followed by puzzles and sports (12%), board games (7%), and casual (6%).
