The model has deleted a video in which she sings the song with a friend, whom the Russian Justice punishes with ten days in prison
The Russian Justice has sentenced Miss Crimea 2022, Olga Valeeva, and a friend of hers – whose identity has not been revealed – for singing a Ukrainian anthem. The young women spread on social networks last September a video in which they sang a cappella ‘Chervona Kalina’, a song considered by the Russian authorities as the anthem of Ukrainian nationalists. What is the punishment? A fine of 40,000 rubles (about 680 euros) for Valeeva and ten days in prison for her friend.
The Ministry of the Interior of Crimea, a peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014, announced yesterday that it had arrested “two young people who play the anthem of an extremist organization in a video”, which has already been removed. Shortly after, he also published images where two young women, with blurred faces, apologized. “I want to apologize for having sung the song ‘Chervona Kalina’, the message of which I was completely unaware of,” says one of them, who appears to be Valeeva. The 34-year-old model also assured on her Instagram account that she sang the song “without symbolic connotations.”
It is not the first time that the Russian authorities veto and punish support for kyiv. In fact, at the beginning of last month, another video recorded during a wedding party in a restaurant in Bakhshisrai, in southern Crimea, was released. In it you could see how the guests sang ‘Chervona Kalina’. The result? Fines and sentences of between five and fifteen days in prison, both for the participants and for the organizers. Shortly after, the owner of the premises recorded a video in which he apologized for what happened and expressed his support for the Russian offensive in Ukraine. Since then, Crimean Governor Sergei Aksionov has promised to open criminal investigations against those who sing Ukrainian anthems.
