Miren Arzalluz has been appointed general director of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, a position she will assume as of April 1. The Board of Trustees of the institution has approved today the appointment of the daughter of the historic nationalist leader Xabier Arzalluz, who succeeds Juan Ignacio Vidarte in office.
According to the museum, “the choice responds to Arzalluz’s experience and international recognition in the field of cultural institutions, his long-term commitment to the project, his vision aligned with the Museum’s mission to serve as a key element in the transformation strategy of the country, and its sensitivity to the diverse cultural contexts in which the Museum operates with the capacity to integrate local and global values.
Miren Arzalluz Loroño (Bilbao, 1978), currently director of the Paris Fashion Museum–Palais Galliera, joins the Guggenheim with a proven track record at the head of internationally prestigious organizations in the field of culture, providing a deep knowledge of history of art, museums and research, combined with extensive experience in institutional management and international relations.
