The Minister of Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Citizen Rights, Ovidio Zapicoand the Secretary of State for Housing and Urban Agenda, David Lucasheld a meeting this Tuesday in Madrid to advance the procedures that will allow the Gijón neighborhoods to be declared Cimavilla and The Arena stressed residential market areas.
At the meeting, the Principality and the State Government agreed to promote this measure, in application of the Housing Law, as requested by the plenary session of the Xixón City Council.
Zapico has expressed the commitment of the regional Executive in the development of the Housing Law and has explained that its application, with regard to stressed areas, includes additional financing to implement measures that stimulate the supply of affordable housing in these neighborhoods.
“There is a commitment from Housing to contemplate a specific budget item for 2025 that makes it possible to develop additional plans that will alleviate the situation in these neighborhoods,” said Zapico.
As stated by the regional Executive in a note, the Housing Law states that the government, within the framework of state powers, may develop, in agreement with the competent territorial administration, a specific program for stressed residential market areas.
In Spain, only 131 municipalities in Spain have been declared stressed areas. Catalonia and in one of the Basque Countryand the Foral Community of Navarra is also working on this measure.
From the neighborhood association Gigia of Cimavilla have pointed out NORTH that “we make ourselves available to the Department and City Council to collaborate and convey our needs and problems in the neighborhood.” Among the demands of the neighbors is public investment in the homes of VIPASA in the neighborhood.
