The 2022-I campaign of Millionaires, who six dates ago was a firm contender for the title, ended in the worst way. In its objective of securing points for reclassification, the team led by Alberto Gamero lost 2-1 against Bucaramanga, in a poor presentation.
Millionaires seemed to lose heart in El Campín. In the first minute he was already losing, in a play that began with a lost ball by Mackalister Silva. Dayro Moreno had time to make a heel and enable Sherman Cárdenas, who kicked from the outside without much force. Goalkeeper Álvaro Montero looked at the ball and it ended up hitting a post before going into the visiting goal.
Bucaramanga, on the other hand, played as if they still had a chance of qualifying. He dominated the ball and with that he deactivated Millonarios, who looked handcuffed on the Alfonso López court.
However, in one of the few times that the talent light bulb was lit in the first half, Carlos Gómez tied the game after a rebound after a shot from himself, when he had received a clearance from Jáder Valencia, at 22 minutes.
Another error by Millonarios made it 2-1 for Bucaramanga, at 33. Valencia wanted to steal a ball on the edge of the area and his refusal fell near the penalty spot, where Dayro Moreno did a caper to beat Montero.
The second half started very badly for Millonarios, who continued to be dominated by Bucaramanga and ended up listening to ‘Ole’ from a little over 4,000 local fans.
That, at least, made Gamero’s men react in search of an equalizer and, finally, some momentum appeared. But what still did not appear was the definition: Ómar Bertel crashed a shot into the post and Diego Abadía, who had entered for Valencia, had a very clear one in front of the goal, but his shot hit the horizontal.
Of the last 15 points, Millonarios only made three. And that is a poor balance for a team that had aspirations of being champion and that now must begin to rebuild the path.
