There is a lot of uncertainty about what may happen with the future of Radamel Falcao García, a possible signing for Millonarios is in the air; However, the topic is not simple and the countdown to knowing a final answer has already begun.
The ‘Tigre’ of Santa Marta decided to open the door last week by saying at a publicity event that that dream of dressing in blue and white was still latent, words that reached the ears of the board of directors of Millionaires.
”Everyone knows that Millonarios is the team of my heartSince childhood, these things are complex, they are topics that are discussed with the family. We have had conversations with Dr. (Gustavo) Serpa a long time ago so we will surely be talking very soon, it depends on his intentions,” said Samario.
On Thursday the long-awaited meeting took place between Falcao and Serpa. EL TIEMPO was able to confirm that the meeting took place around 1:30 in the afternoon and left a forceful response: Falcao reveals his final decision between Tuesday and Wednesday, after speaking with his family and evaluating the tax issue.
The meeting touched on issues such as the player’s salary, in which both could give in on their demands to reach an agreement. However, to play in Bogotá he had to ask his wife Lorelei Tarón about the possibility of coming to live in Colombia.
Although this would not be an obstacle to overcome, since Lorelei would have already given her approval: “Lore has told me that she is willing to go where I see fit, because football is not going to last a lifetime, we are aware of that and “We have to make the most of the remaining seasons,” said Falcao at his publicity event.
Taxes keep Falcao away
The thorniest issue is tax. The wealth tax makes it difficult to see ‘Tigre’ with the blue-and-white jacket, since he must pay a percentage calculated on his wealth in Colombia and abroad.
The wealth tax was signed in the tax reform approved by the government of President Gustavo Petro in 2022. La Dian points out that a person must submit this declaration if they have a liquid asset of 3,388 million pesos or higher.
2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 is 1.5 percent. Starting in 2027 the rate decreases to 1 percent.
EL TIEMPO learned that Radamel Falcao García mentioned in his meeting with Millonarios that he was going to speak with his accountant to see the viability of signing with the club and resolve the tax issue.
Falcao’s response is imminent and could arrive at any time. The top scorer of the Colombian National Team will send his final decision to Millonarios to find out if they sit down to formally negotiate the contract.
Keys to a possible contract
“They told Falcao that they would need him at the end of June, exactly June 27, but the attacker would have mentioned that he could from July 3 so that there were no problems with the 180 days of the wealth tax,” the media explains.
EL TIEMPO spoke with a source from the club who explained this information: “A person who spends more than 180 days in Colombia becomes a tax resident and would have to pay the taxes that are not paid in the place where they file their income tax returns, such as For example, the wealth tax that exists only in Colombia. It has nothing to do with the contract, but with entering the country and staying there for 180 days in a period of one year,” he clarifies.
