The death of Emiliano Sala continues to be talked about more than three years after the fatal accident. As reported by the English media Mirror, Cardiff City has demanded compensation of 95 million euros from Nantes for the footballer’s death. The Argentine footballer was traveling on a private flight from France to Cardiff after the clubs they would have reached an agreement for the transfer of the striker when the plane carrying him crashed.
The ‘bluebirds’ denounce that the tragic accident and, therefore, Sala’s non-signing by the British club led to Cardiff’s relegation to the Championship that same year. The English team relegated four months after the Argentine’s death, remaining seventeenth, two points behind Brighton, which ended up being saved.
Neil Warnock, manager of Cardiff at the time, assured that he had lacked the goals of a striker to save himself. Thus, the Welsh team claims 95 million euros from the French entitysince they estimate that they lost that money as TV rights, advertising and sponsorshipsas reported The Sun.
This claim has been published in a book that went on sale this Monday called ‘The truth – The murder of Emiliano Sala’. Cardiff would have made this claim during their appeal hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which is reviewing whether the British club should pay Nantes the 18 million euros that they had agreed for the transfer of the footballer.
Tévez, West Ham and an irregularity that ’caused’ relegation
Cardiff understands that Nantes must be held accountable for Sala’s death, as his agent Willie McKay hired the plane on his behalf. The Welsh have used as an argument the example of Carlos Tévez in 2007, in whose signing for West Ham there were irregularities for breaking the Premier’s rules regarding the ownership of players by third parties (They belonged to MSI, Kia Joorabchian’s company).
The Argentinian striker scored 7 goals in the Hammers’ last 10 games that led Sheffield to relegation on overall goal difference. The ‘blades’ demanded that points be deducted from them for these irregularities, but was finally saved with a compensation of 31.5 million eurosa much smaller amount than Cardiff is now claiming from Nantes.
