The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced yesterday, Monday, March 4, the arrest of a military leader after the death of seven cadets on the beaches of Ensenada, Baja Californiawho lost their lives drowned during his training.
López Obrador expressed his regret over the incident and assured that an exhaustive investigation is being carried out to clarify the facts and determine if the person responsible did not follow the established protocols.
Although the president did not reveal the identity of the detainee, the victims' relatives identified the colonel David N as the person responsible, who is accused of not respecting security protocols when send cadets to sea, despite the danger of waves four meters high that was there that day.
The president mentioned that the incident occurred on February 20, where 11 elements ended up in the sea, of which four managed to be rescued and six bodies were recovered. However, a body still needs to be found, and the search has continued with the support of the Secretary of the Navy.
It is expected that the authorities will continue with the investigation so that the information is clear about what happened and that justice is done in this case.
