Éder Militão underwent successful surgery this morning for a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee in an operation performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes, according to the medical report issued by Real Madrid. The player will begin the recovery process in a few days and his return to the playing fields is expected no earlier than nine months.
This is the second cruciate fracture that the player has suffered, although this time in the right knee, when the one that broke in the summer of 2023 was the left one. At that time he was also out for about nine months. The plan now is for the center back to be available to start next summer’s preseason.
With Militão there are once again three players in the first team who cannot play due to a broken cruciate. Before it was Dani Carvajal and David Alaba has not yet recovered from what he suffered last summer, which is the case with Thibaut Courtois. Added to these is Joan Martínez, a youth player who was on the first team’s preseason tour.
Crusader breaks in fifteen months
Ten between first team, youth team and women
Real Madrid has suffered 22 injuries in the last four months that have affected 16 players. If the youth team and the women’s team were included in the last 15 months, Madrid would have suffered 10 anterior cruciate ligament injuries: Militão on two occasions, Carvajal, Courtois and Alaba; the women’s team (Caroline Weir and Carla Camacho) and the lower categories (Joan Martínez, César Palacios and Daniel Mesonero).
