Several members of the Argentine Executive Branch will participate this Tuesday in the opening of the treatment in the Congress of the so-called 'omnibus law'star project of the libertarian Government Javier Mileiofficial sources reported.
The Minister of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona, and the Secretary of Energy, Eduardo Rodríguez Chirillo, will go to the National Congress to “begin with the explanations that the deputies believe are pertinent,” said the presidential spokesman, Manuel Adorni, in his daily press conference at Pink House (seat of Government).
The draft Law of Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines, baptized as 'omnibus law' Through its 664 articles, it seeks to provide legislative powers to the Executive by virtue of a public emergency in various areas that would govern until at least December 31, 2025.
This will begin to be analyzed today in various commissions created within the Chamber of Deputies.
The presidential spokesperson reiterated that “the law is not negotiated because everything is aimed at making Argentines better off” and, therefore, “suggestions are heard, but it is not negotiated.”
In that sense, The Executive is convinced that it is on “the path out” of the current situation of “decay” that Argentina is experiencing and, therefore, asks the Legislative Branch to approve the bill.
Adorni indicated that the Milei Government does not evaluate “the non-approval” of the 'omnibus law', since, he added, “the explanations, clarifications and all the information that the different actors are requiring up to this point are being provided.”
Furthermore, he pointed out that, in the event that the law is not supported by the Legislature, Argentina is not “going to stabilize the” economic variables.
“When we have been living in a decadent situation for a long time, it is difficult for us to understand what is the position of someone who does not want to change, what is the reason why they do not want to accompany a profound change in this Argentina that many of us do not want to see anymore in terms of destitution, poverty or isolation from the world,” he asserted.
The Executive wants this law, which proposes profound changes in areas such as economic, health, judicial or political, to be approved before the end of January.
La Libertad Avanza (LLA), the far-right party led by Milei, lacks enough representatives of its own in Congress and its potential allies are not enough to win over the opposition, which could bog down its reforms.
In Deputies, LLA has 38 out of 257 seats and in the Senate, just seven out of 72, while Together for Change – a center-right coalition that supports the Milei Government and even has several of its members in the cabinet – has with 94 in the Lower House and 21 in the Upper House.
For its part, the Peronist Union for the Homeland retains 108 parliamentarians and 33 senators, so no force has the 129 necessary for its own quorum or the 37 automatic majority in the Senate.
