The Court of Auditors gives the French government a miserable report on border controls and deportations. The report that has now been published is also causing a stir because it was initially withheld.
FFrance's fight against illegal immigration is proving largely ineffective. The French Court of Auditors comes to this conclusion in a report that has now been published. He was kept under lock and key for several weeks because of the parliamentary debate about the stricter immigration law. The former socialist finance and economics minister and EU Commissioner Pierre Moscovici, who has headed the Court of Auditors since June 2020, justified the delayed publication by saying that he did not want to influence the legislative process.
The report was originally supposed to be made public the day after the successful rejection of the bill. The Republican regional council chairman Laurent Wauquiez (LR) complained about a “serious violation” of the democratic transparency obligation and called for Moscovici’s resignation. “He has decided to keep hidden information that could be of public use for the debate on the immigration law,” criticized the left-wing party LFI MP Antoine Léaument. The stricter immigration law is currently being examined by the Constitutional Council.
