Miel Dekien, 18, dies, one of the world’s greatest promises of cyclocross

The cycling team Ostend Air College announced this Saturday the death of his runner Honey Dekien18 years old, in a traffic accident that occurred in Beerst, near Diksmuide (in West Flanders) in which another person of the same age died. The young Belgian, who also practiced road cycling, was considered one of the great world promises of cyclocross.

«It is with great sadness and incomprehension that we inform you of the death of our runner Miel Dekien (2006-2024) as a result of a tragic traffic accident«, the Belgian cyclist’s team communicated on their networks.

«You will always remain in our hearts Honey, we will never forget you and we are grateful for the many beautiful moments together. You were and will continue to be a fantastic guy for us. Our deepest condolences to parents, family, friends and everyone who loved Miel. We lack words… wherever you are now, we wish you the best.”

Dekien, who recently debuted in the under-23 category at the Koppenbergcross, had achieved good results last winter in the lower categories, including a second place at the Kortrijk Urban Cross.
