Microsoft is bringing a host of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features to its flagship Paint and Notepad apps. Some of the innovations are already available to all users. Others remain in beta phase with limited access for members of Windows Insider, the firm’s early testing program.
Paint has integrated a tool that allows you to insert AI-generated objects into any project and through a text prompt. Users must define the location of the element using the “Select” option. The system will open a conversation box in which you can indicate the particularities that the component you want to add must include. The intelligent algorithm will combine the description with context data, including aspects such as lighting, style and color range to deliver the result. If the answer does not meet expectations, simply click click Click the “Try again” button to add details to the request or make a new one.
The new feature is known as “Generative Fill” and is similar to the “Generate Image” option enabled in the latest version of Photoshop. The only drawback is that its execution requires a neural processing unit (NPU) integrated into the computer. That is why the feature can only be used on Copilot+ PCs with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. At the moment, it is only enabled for subscribers of Windows Insider “in supported markets, where availability may vary according to regional criteria,” notes the big tech.
Microsoft’s image editor also gained a smart eraser that can delete elements or people in an image without altering the background. The function can be activated from the “Draft” section. Those interested only have to mark the element they want to delete and confirm the action. The resource is compatible with all computers running the Windows 11 operating system.
Notepad enabled the ability to rewrite text. The alternative is useful to optimize the wording of sentences, adjust the tone of the notes and modify the length of the content. Everything automatic. The only thing you have to do is select the text to modify, right click and choose the “Rewrite” option.
The update to Paint and Notepad is the latest move by the company led by Satya Nadella to capitalize on the benefits of AI to the fullest. Microsoft seeks to integrate new technology into all its business units. The alliance it maintains with OpenAI has allowed it to give new life to many of its products that had been left behind and optimize the performance of its business divisions that have high growth potential. In recent days, he announced the existence of a chatbot designed to improve the user experience on Xbox. The product is in the testing phase and aims to “help players resolve technical support problems more efficiently.”
