Upward period
According to data from the Administrative Registry of the Heavy Vehicle Automotive Industry, presented by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi)In the first quarter of this year, 13,321 units were sold at retail and 13,038 at wholesale.
This is 10 percent more compared to the same period in 2023, when 23,947 vehicles of this type were sold.
At the beginning of 2020, sales had a drop of 29.5% compared to the previous year, in the context of the pandemic. Covid-19, with barely 13 thousand units sold in that quarter.
They remained below 14 thousand units in the same period of 2021, and rose above 17 thousand by 2022.
The information comes from the ten companies affiliated with the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers and Sparta Motors.
The brands with the most sales in this quarter were Freightliner (6,665), Ken-worth (5,831), International (5,069), Mercedes-Benz Buses (1,996), Isuzu (1,533) and Volkswagen Trucks and Buses (1,422).
And it should be noted that Mercedes-Benz, International and Freightliner Their sales grew by 63.4%, 46.4% and 25.6% respectively, in relation to the first quarter of the previous year. While Kenworth only grew its sales by 4.2%.
Production-export
In the first quarter of 2024, 52,892 heavy vehicles were produced in Mexico: 50,932 cargo vehicles (96.3%) and 1,960 passenger vehicles (3.7%).
This represents a decrease of 8.31% compared to the same period in 2023, when 57,683 units were produced.
Freightliner and Internationalwhich are the main factories in the country, reduced their production by 8.2% and 11.7%, respectively, compared to the first quarter of the previous year.
Likewise, 42,081 units were exported, which represents 8.49% less than in the same period of the previous year.
The export of heavy vehicles was mostly to the United States (95.8%), but units were also sent to Canada (2.9%), Colombia (0.7%) and other countries.
