The Mexican television presenter and model Michelle Pérez Tadeo, known as Michelle Simon, was found dead this Tuesday in Santo Tomás Ajusco, in the mayor’s office of Tlalpan (south of Mexico City), according to the authorities.
The body of Simon, 29, was found wrapped in hotel sheets by operators working to extinguish a fire on the Picacho-Ajusco highway, according to a statement from the spokesman for the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, Ulises Lara. Lopez. His family and friends had reported him missing three days earlier.
In a video broadcast on Twitter, Lara López has assured that her death is being investigated as a femicide. Police officers have already carried out various inspections in the area and have interviewed witnesses, although they have not yet indicated any cause of death pending the results of the autopsy. If the crime is confirmed, Simon will be the sixth journalist murdered this year in Mexico.
On February 10, journalist Heber López Vásquez, a reporter in the port of Salina Cruz, in the state of Oaxaca, was shot dead in his home. His death occurred after another colleague, José Ignacio Santiago Martínez, was the target of an armed attack from which he was unharmed.
The protests against the wave of attacks suffered by journalists in Mexico are multiplying. On February 14, dozens of journalists marched in Mexico City under the slogan “You don’t kill the truth by killing journalists” to demand measures to stop the violence of which reporters in the country are victims. A similar mobilization also took place in Tijuana, in the north. Also last week, some of the journalists attending the conference of President Manuel López Obrador refused to ask the Mexican president questions to condemn this wave of violence.
