Nintendo has released a free demo for Metroid Dread, the new adventure of the bounty hunter Samus Aran.
The new chapter of the adventures of Samus has been a huge success (here is our review) for both critics and fans. The series has always been one of the most important in the gaming world, so much so that it has given life together with Catlevania to an entire genre of video games, i metroidvania.
The game developed by Mercury Steam is the sequel to the title for Game Boy Advance Metroid Fusion, now released in 2002, and sees the protagonist grappling with a new threat on the planet ZDR, prompted to investigate after receiving a video containing a specimen of parasite X.
Unlike the first title created by the Spanish development team Metroid Samus Returns, the remake of Metroid 2 released on Game Boy in 1991, the game is characterized by a mysterious and oppressive atmosphere, the goal was precisely to create fear, as the title itself says, in the players.
Apparently the creator of the series Yoshio Sakamoto, had the idea for the concept of the final chapter of the 2D series a long time ago, only the limitations technology of Nintendo consoles, specifically the DS at the time, they never allowed him to develop the title like would have wanted.
For this reason the alternative title of the game is Metroid 5, despite the other chapters released later Metroid Fusion like the spin-off series Metroid Prime from Retro Studios, of which we are still awaiting news on the fourth chapter after a teaser released years ago, and the disappointing Metroid Other M, developed by Team Ninja.
On the same day as Dread, Nintendo also released its new version of Switch with OLED screen, not exactly the Nintendo Switch Pro which seemed to be in the pipeline, but still an appreciated upgrade especially for those who prefer the game in portable mode, here is a video comparison with the original console.
