The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued an orange alert for intense rains and storms that are expected to hit 11 states this Saturday (20). It uses three types of alert: yellow – potential danger; orange – danger; and red – great danger.
The states that are expected to be hit by intense rains and storms are Santa Catarina (northern region), Paraná (entire state), São Paulo (entire state), Mato Grosso do Sul (southern region); Minas Gerais (southern, central and eastern regions); Rio de Janeiro (western region of the state); Espírito Santo (western region); Mato Grosso (northwest region); Amazonas (south, east and west region); Rondônia (northeast region) and Pará (southwest region).

According to Inmet, the area most affected by the highest daily rainfall accumulations, this Saturday, is expected to be the eastern part of São Paulo (including the capital and metropolitan region) and coastal areas, where rainfall could vary from 80 millimeters (mm) to 100mm.
On Sunday, the heaviest rains are expected to occur between the north coast of São Paulo and areas in the south and east of the state (including the capital and metropolitan region), and also in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro and in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, where it may rain 70 mm to 90 mm in some places.
