If you have some spare time, see if you can get an AI bot to merge two cars with different sizes. A Volkswagen Golf with a Passat, for example. Mercedes is already showing it. The German brand stops with the C and E-class coupé and ends up with this car: the Mercedes CLE Coupé.
According to Mercedes, it is “the largest coupe in the mid-sized segment”. Compared to the previous C-class Coupé, the wheelbase has grown by 25 millimeters. In the back there is 10 millimeters more space for your crest, 19 millimeters more for your shoulders and elbows and 72 millimeters more legroom. Oh, and the boot is 60 liters larger, which, according to Mercedes, ‘can easily fit three golf bags’. You notice that the brand knows its customers well.
What does the CLE take over from the C and E-class coupe?
In short, it has the size of the E-class and the looks of the C-class. Although that appearance has of course been adapted to the new standard. That’s why there is a grille with countless Mercedes stars and new headlights. The front calls Mercedes one ‘shark nose’, but for that you really have to go to the Ferrari 156 F1 car from the 1960s. Or BMWs from a few years later.
The new MBUX infotainment system is incorporated inside, which you can use on a 12.3-inch screen. The display for the driver is 11.9 inches in size. Mercedes has made new front seats for the CLE. Speakers are incorporated in this at the height of the headrest so that you Fur Elise even better to take. In addition, Mercedes came up with the idea that it was more convenient to unlock the seat with a loop instead of a lever.
Specifications of the Mercedes CLE Coupé
All Mercedes CLEs – coupes and convertibles – are mild hybrids. Thanks to a new battery, the power of the electric motor has increased from 15 kW to 17 kW. There are four variants with a four-cylinder – one of which is diesel – but the highlight is the CLE 450 4Matic. It gets a 3.0-liter six-in-line with 381 hp and 500 Nm. A sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.4 seconds and the top speed is 250 km/h.
Are you going for the four-cylinder? Then you always get a 2.0-liter block. In the diesel it produces 200 hp and 440 Nm. The CLE 200 is the mildest petrol version, with 204 hp and 320 Nm. This version can be ordered with or without four-wheel drive. Finally, there is the CLE 300 4Matic. Here the four-cylinder produces 258 hp and 400 Nm. All versions – including the six-cylinder – have a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Price of the new Mercedes
The Mercedes CLE Coupé is coming to Europe in November. The convertible must follow sometime next year. It is not yet known what the two CLEs will cost. At the moment you have lost between 76,713 euros and 104,748 euros for the E-class coupe (without options). The AMG version adds another 30,000 euros. The CLS costs a minimum of 88,942 euros. We expect the CLE Coupé to come out somewhere around here. What you can also do is wait for it to plug in: Mercedes is already announcing that a plug-in hybrid CLE Coupé is also coming. Or hope for an AMG if you want to go all out.
