The name is all a program, Mercedes AMG PureSpeedor the concept that represents apreview of the first model of the “hyper limited” Mercedes-Benz Mythos series. An authentic jewel on wheels presented on the sidelines of Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix on a floating platform in the port of the principality in the presence of the Mercedes F1 drivers themselves, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. “It’s a taste of what is probably the most direct way to experience performance and driving pleasure,” explains Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “Radically open, neither the roof nor the windshield separates the two passengers from the elements. It is possible to experience light, air and passion without filters, with all the senses. As the concept of our first Mythos vehicle, it embodies the highest level of exclusivity. Design elements such as the HALO also create an exciting ‘Formula 1 feeling’. There could therefore be no better place than Monaco for its world premiere.”
Mercedes AMG PureSpeed: what is HALO
THE HALO it is a direct derivative of the premier class of motorsport and has been part of every single-seater in Formula One since 2018. Protects the rider’s head in the event of an accident and consists of one bracket optimized from an aerodynamic point of view and connected to the vehicle bodywork. The lucky owners of the only 250 examples available were also reserved two helmets for each vehicle, designed specifically for this concept.
Mercedes AMG PureSpeed: design inspired by the AMG ONE hypercar
Many design features harken back to the Mercedes‑AMG ONE hypercar. In the lower part, the exposed carbon fiber parts create a strong contrast with the rounded shapes of the upper part, all while the design of the wheels is characterized by the exclusive carbon fiber covering on the front and rear wheel covers. The rear wheel covers are completely closed to improve aerodynamics, while the front ones are open to optimize airflow to the front end for brake cooling and downforce.
Mercedes AMG PureSpeed: long bonnet and low front
The front design is similar to that of the Mercedes‑AMG ONE with a large lower air intake with AMG lettering and a dark, chrome Mercedes star on the nose. Added to this is the aerodynamically and sportily optimized bonnet with an additional air outlet. The work is completed by the small transparent deflectors on the front and sides to direct the wind beyond the passenger compartment.
Mercedes AMG PureSpeed: homage to the legendary models of the Star
But that is not all. The two flying buttresses behind the seats are reminiscent of legendary racing cars such as the 300 SLR with which Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson won the 1955 Mille Miglia, at a record average speed of 157 km/h on public roads. The paintwork ranges from Le Mans red to graphite gray with a black AMG motif, and recalls the same color scheme as the Mercedes that won the Targa Florio in 1924.
