Chihuahua.- The young man from Meoca, Amir Montes, aged 16, obtained 1st place in the Free Hands discipline and 2nd place in Traditional with Weapons at the 2024 Martial Hero Cup, held in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, demonstrating his exceptional skill and dedication within this martial art.
In an interview, Amir said that he has been practicing this sport for 12 years: “I started practicing it when I was 4 years old because I was very restless. It was during a summer course where my parents decided to enroll me in a school where this sport was practiced. However, I was not accepted due to my young age. It was at that moment that I decided to start practicing it.”
He added that it is an honor for him to be able to represent Meoqui, the State of Chihuahua and Mexico: “At first I was very nervous, it was my first time participating in this type of competition, but as time went by, I felt more excited; this is a new opportunity for young people, it gives me great joy and pride to be able to represent them and I hope with all my heart to be able to achieve it again.”
The 2024 Martial Hero Cup brought together more than 250 select Wushu athletes from the American continent where they concentrated at the emblematic River Plate Sports Center, located in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Wushu, popularly known as kung fu, is a compendium of all Chinese martial arts. It is practiced in two modalities. Taolu is an exhibition sport that compiles fighting systems with and without weapons, organized by style. Sanda is a one-on-one combat modality, based on traditional techniques, widely used in mixed martial arts (MMA). The teaching of Wushu – Kung Fu is the transmission of Chinese sports culture: martial ethics, philosophy, stylistic references and healthy lifestyle habits.
