The footballer was given a resounding ‘NO’ as a child. That, instead of saddening him, motivated him.

This Monday, October 10, is commemorated throughout the world Mental Health Day.

With initiatives from different organizations, the importance of mental health in sport is remembered.

At a time when figures like Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka have decided to speak openly on the subject, English striker Harry Kane decided to do his bit.

Kane’s Initiative

Through his social networks, the Tottenham Hotspur striker reported that he decided to create a foundation for “transforming a generation’s thinking about mental health”.

In his initiative, the attacker argues that his father’s support was vital after Arsenal rejected him as a child.

“I want to learn more, help normalize conversations about mental health, promote positive habits that support mental wellness, and address the stigma surrounding the topic,” Kane said.

“I will be working with some amazing organizations and causes close to my heart. Some exciting activations are launching today, on World Mental Health Day, with more to follow.”
