A survey carried out by the Regional Council of Pharmacy of the State of São Paulo pointed out that 98.5% of pharmacists in the state indicate a lack of medicines in the private and public networks of pharmacies.
1,152 pharmacists were consulted across the state between May 19 and 30. 93% of professionals said they were suffering from a lack of antibiotics; 76% indicated a lack of medication for respiratory problems, mainly expectorants; 68% pointed out the lack of antiallergic drugs and 60% said they lacked analgesics, such as ibuprofen, paracetamol and dipyrone.

According to the CRF-SP, most of the missing medicines are made up of liquid formulations, which affects children in particular, who are more likely to ingest the medicines that way.
The entity also reinforced that logistical failures that affect several industrial chains due to the covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the strong restrictions on movement to contain the coronavirus outbreaks in China also hamper the supply of medicines.

The main raw material of any medicine is the so-called Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (IFA) and the pharmaceutical industry suffers from the scarcity of this product, since 95% of what arrives in Brazil is imported and 68% comes from China.
The executive president of the Brazilian Association of Pharmaceutical Inputs Industry (Abiquifi) Norberto Prestes reinforced that the increase in demand for this product by China and India also hinders the Brazilian production chain.
