The Wing of Discord
The Singapore GP was more controversial for the engine-off controversy than for the on-track action. Preceding a flat race dominated by Lando Norris was the issue of theMcLaren flexible rear wingwhich generated a mini-DRS on the Woking car.
The FIA had initially given its approval to the specification, only to then ask McLaren to take a step back: a patch worse than the hole, considering that the low-downforce wing would have been shelved anyway and “dusted off” only in Las Vegas.
Norris’s words
In the press conference following the Singapore Grand Prix, Norris he defended his team: “We even had to make some changes to some wings and other things that others have complained about. But we still had a great weekend and probably one of our most dominant weekends here“.
“Honestly, I don’t think this made a difference.. It’s just that the car has been working great for quite some time. I haven’t been able to make the leap in quality in some races where I felt I had the pace: partly that’s my fault, that I haven’t done a good enough job at times and I’ve paid the price for that.”.
