The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, visited the town of Torrent this Monday, one of the most affected by DANA on October 29. His destination was the inauguration of a bus shuttle that will connect this point with Valencia and there Mazón has met a group of neighbors who have scolded him and demanded responsibility for his management of the crisis.
It was not the first time that the president heard cries of “Mazón resign”—this was the motto of the massive demonstration last Saturday in Valencia. But today the head of the Generalitat has also heard protests about the delay in sending the alert to citizens or his delay in arriving at the crisis committee meeting when the water was already flooding the streets.
Mazón has answered all the questions. “You are incompetent,” one of the citizens told him. “It was an amount of water that they did not warn us about before,” the president responded. “There was an alarm since seven thirty,” the neighbor replied, referring to the first warnings issued by the AEMET that day. “It took you two hours to raise the alarm,” he continues, “people dying and you eating, you eating food, you are incompetent, you should be ashamed.”
The president of the Generalitat has tried to talk to the neighbors while they continued to say “no, lies” to his answers. According to the images recorded by Tele Torrent, Mazón is heard saying that “there were warnings,” but when one of the neighbors adds that “you were eating with your friend,” the president gestures with his head and responds “no, we were working, I was “Everyone in their place.”
When leaving the place, Mazón said “I understand” to the neighbors and continued walking while shouts of “resign now” were heard. During his other visit this Monday, to the CV-33 works, the president admitted that “without a doubt” mistakes could have been made in his management of the DANA.
Mazón declared this morning that his team is working to “adapt the entire structure of the Valencian Government to the reconstruction work of the DANA” and has scheduled Thursday, the day on which he will appear in the Corts, to “start talking about politics.” and avoid “hoaxes and shocking and even unpleasant insinuations.”
