The SUV will be presented for the European market on 8 March Mazda CX-60. The new vehicle will join the Hiroshima brand range, introducing an engine for the first time plug-in hybrid capable of pairing a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol with an electric unit for a total system power exceeding 223 kW (over 300 hp). The CX-60 will therefore be Mazda’s first PHEV for Europe, followed by the CX-80 which will instead offer a 7-seat configuration. Alongside the plug-in hybrid engines, new six-cylinder power units with 48-volt light hybrid assistance will also be offered.
The style will be minimalist, according to Mazda, and will be inspired by the so-called ‘Kodo Design‘that distinguishes the latest creations of the Japanese brand. “The strong personality of the CX-60 comes from the beauty and naturalness of its proportions, which clearly convey its characteristic longitudinal front engine and rear wheel drive architecture.“Mazda announced in a note suggesting a design that is not an end in itself.
The external design is inspired by the aesthetic principle of subtraction, which eliminates superfluous contents leaving as much as possible the cleanliness of the lines at the center of the style. Mazda was inspired “to the concept of Ma, the calm and solemn beauty of empty space, which creates a car with an inconspicuous appearance, yet capable of expressing the sense of security”Typical of SUVs. Seeking to create further visual impact, Mazda conceived for the bodywork a new white colora reflective tint created precisely to highlight the shapes of the CX-60 through the contrast of light and shadow.
Compared to the CX-50 which boasts a more rugged appearance, the CX-60 appears to be a more road-oriented SUV with a less off-road, more graceful look. It is a choice, that of minimalism, which goes against the trend; however, considering the advent on the market of electric cars, whose lines are usually cleaner, it can be a winner.
