Actors Maxi Iglesias and Ximena Romo joined their “strokes” to merge the essence of Spain and Mexico by starring in a series written by María Dueñas, demonstrating that, although they have different ways of interpreting, “everything is there to add up,” Iglesias remarked in an interview with EFE.
The series “The artists: first strokes”, which will arrive on the ViX Premium platform on July 7, tells the story of Cata (Ximena Romo) and Yago (Maxi Iglesias).
These two characters meet by chance in a bar Madrid, where a special connection begins to emerge. Little by little, they get to know each other and great chemistry develops between them, forming a team to scam billionaires by selling fake works of art.
“At first there’s an interest that might seem more like ‘boy meets girl,’ but over time (the character) discovers that there really is more potential than just that attraction. He realizes that they can team up and that, as the chapters go by, he likes being with her more, ”commented the actor.
INTERNATIONAL FORCE
This series has great international strength with the leading role of both artists, giving rise to a synergy where the cultural roots of the two countries are intertwined to connect Spanish-speaking audiences.
“It is true that each one has studied a way of acting and I have been lucky that when I came here I was contributing my way of acting. (…) The synergy that occurs between the different regions makes the production have a higher level and different ways of interpreting come together,” said the artist.
Maxi stressed that the public can feel identified with Cata because there are many people in Spain that they are working in precarious conditions, that they know “a lot” and have a lot of talent but that they cannot do what they really want. That’s why, feeling reflected in this situation is “very nutritious”, stressed.
IMPORTANCE OF MARÍA DUEÑAS
The two actors praised the writer of this series, María Dueñas, known for her novels “El tiempo entre costuras” (2009), “La templanza” (2015) or “Sira” (2021), among others.
“I have seen all the series that they had made of his books and I feel that for me he was always a benchmark for interesting stories. Apart from his female characters I love them, that was the first hitch, “said the Mexican actress.
On the other hand, Maxi expressed that he loves the sensitivity that Dueñas has, not only for the female character, but “how the men who surround Cata either add up a lot or immediately you see that they are there to throw them aside.”
The Spaniard explained that he was fascinated by her character in the series because, for Dueñas, Yago is an important piece in supporting the representation of Cata, reinforcing those ideas of an independent, solvent and decisive woman.
AN “ADDICTIVE” COMBINATION
The series immerses audiences in a story of fraud with deception, forgery and suspense, and is set in the exclusive multi-million dollar world of art sales, aiming to hook the viewer from the very first minute.
“In the end, the series talks about love, art, love of art and overcoming. All this, if you combine it, is very addictive, because in the end when you see two people who manage to improve themselves and who are learning, you feel the uncertainty of seeing what is going to happen”, highlighted the interpreter.
That is why, according to Romo, the series has its side of drama and suspense where we see characters in high-tension situations, but they also have lighter moments, with comedy or romance between the two characters.
“I think it’s a very fun and fast series, for the whole family and it really catches you and you’re going to want to eat all the episodes at once,” he added.
FINAL?
Of the series, which consists of 10 chapters, its second season has not yet been announced, since they will wait to see the acceptance of the public.
Even so, Maxi is optimistic and believes that there will be a second season because chapter 10 “ends in a dizzying manner and with a lot of emotion (…) and it cannot stop there.”
“At least those of us behind do want a second one, but it’s not in our hands,” Ximena concluded.
