Five people were killed and four injured in an armed attack on Saturday night in the San Felipe del Real neighborhood during a quinceañera party; at least five minors were among the victims, in an incident that is unofficially attributed to an internal conflict between gangs of the same organized crime group.
The guests were celebrating a 15th birthday party at a house when a group of armed men arrived and fired their weapons at some of the guests, according to witnesses. The attack occurred at the intersection of Marcelo Caraveo and Santa Isabel streets, in the northwest of the city, where ambulances, elements of the Mexican Army, the National Guard and Municipal Police arrived, guarding the crime scene until the arrival of various teams from the District Attorney’s Office for the Northern Zone to investigate the multiple homicide. At the scene, a woman was left dead between a post and a trash can very close to the door of the house where the attack took place, while the men were left on the sidewalk. The woman has not been officially identified, although it has been reported that she is a 15-year-old girl with the initials JB. Regarding the men, the Attorney General’s Office announced that a 16-year-old boy was identified at the scene with the initials KHR and another who has not been identified. An injured woman was helped by the party-goers and then taken in an ambulance to receive urgent medical attention. Beer bottles and blood stains were seen at the scene. In addition to the people killed and injured, there were others who were treated for nervous breakdowns, as it was a crowded party. Although initially only three victims had been killed, on Sunday morning the State Investigation Agency confirmed that there were five in total. It was also announced that about 20 shell casings were found, although the caliber was not specified, in an attack that left four more people injured: two men and two women, aged 15, 16, 17 and 19. A ministerial agent assigned to the Homicide area, said that two men and a woman were killed at the scene, but in a hospital the death of another man was reported, and on the way to receive medical attention another died, who had also been injured at the event. The person in the hospital was a 17-year-old teenager with the initials IMO. On the other hand, Daniel TH, 19, asked another person to drive his gray Chrysler 300 to take him to a clinic, but he crashed into a pickup truck parked at the intersection of María Martínez and Cobalto streets, in the Durango neighborhood. Of the four injured, three received injuries that do not put their lives at risk and one is in a reserved prognosis, said the investigator. According to unofficial information, the initial conflict that led to the armed attack was between two opposing minor groups that are part of the same cartel, although it was not specified which or what illegal activities they allegedly carry out, or whether the victims were part of this group or were circumstantial victims.
