Martinator ransom
Jorge Martin he won the Indonesian GP, a success in the Sunday GPs that in this 2024 had been missing since Le Mans, an eternity. The Spanish driver celebrated with great emphasis, a liberation for him, who crashed yesterday when he seemed destined to dominate the Sprint.
Today in Turn-16 he lost two tenths per lap because he did it with caution, but he was the absolute master of the situation as demonstrated by the final gap on Pedro Acosta.
These are Martin’s words to the microphones of Sky Sports MotoGP: “I’m happy not so much for the result, but above all for having redeemed myself from a complicated situation. On the 13th lap I already started thinking about last yearI had two moments in which I went long at number 10, while at number 11 I was very calm and didn’t want to risk anything. All the following laps when I switched to 16 I thought about staying calm and going slower. I could feel Pedro’s bike, but I also told myself that if he had caught me at that point I would have pushed elsewhere. It was a difficult day because it was very hot but there was also a lot of wind, but I managed to maintain this gap and a very constant pace. When I saw Pedro slightly closer I pushed again to reopen the gap. I had some hard times because mentally it was tough. I always try to win, but I also need to have a head. Yesterday I was too confident, I made a mistake and it’s important to learn. I wanted to win anyway, and so you don’t win. Sometimes you succeed with a good detachment, sometimes you are too optimistic. I try to learn every day because the ultimate goal is not only to win but also to improve every day, even as a person. I hope to continue like this. Last year I had all the potential to win, this year I had the potential to hold a lead of 6-7 tenths which is also difficult because if you make a mistake they massacre you. On this track it is difficult to read the dashboard because you are always in a straight line. They didn’t send me anything, but there are areas where it’s difficult to look. In any case, 27 laps is too long a race.”
