The first contact with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya led to a draw between Jorge Martín and Pecco Bagnaia. The two contenders for the MotoGP title reserved their strength for the Practice (timed session) in the afternoon and for the first round of the Sprint on Saturday, and gave the spotlight in the first free session to Nakagami (Honda), who had his moment of glory with first place.
Although the morning free practice had a strange and curious image: the fall of Pecco Bagnaia once the session ended. The Italian fell to the ground at the end of the straight in the silliest way.
An unexpected scare
Bagnaia fell after rehearsing the start, at the moment when Viñales passed by him
The training session had been dominated by Nakagami, followed by Pedro Acosta and Àlex Márquez. Martín was fifth and Bagnaia seventh. Both reserved themselves, without forcing, avoiding scares on a cold asphalt.
But Pecco got the scare at the end of the session, after rehearsing the starts. When he was rolling at low speed down the straight, relaxed, with one arm resting on the tank, he suddenly fell to the ground. It was just when Maverick Viñales’ Aprilia passed him very quickly, although it didn’t even touch him. The red Ducati blocked in front and Bagnaia ended up on the asphalt, although without physical consequences.
The Italian rebuked the Spaniard, for no reason, since Viñales only followed his path and did not touch or brush Bagnaia, who got quite a scare.
Red flag
Acosta and Augusto Fernández went to the ground after 5 minutes due to a touch when their trajectories crossed
The first training session, with the track very cold (13ºC), started with a red flag after 5 minutes due to the double fall of Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernández. The two Gas Gas Tech3 teammates collided laterally in turn 5-6 and went to the ground.
The collision did not cause any physical damage to the two Spanish pilots. The man from Madrid lifted his KTM, correcting his line, and the two paths crossed along the same curve, so the collision was inevitable.
