No podium, but still 1st
The streak of consecutive podiums, between Sprint and Sunday races, stops at five Jorge Martin in this start of 2024. The Spaniard from the Ducati Prima-Pramac team has in fact finished at fourth place in the Austin racesuccumbing in the final laps to the great pressure of Enea Bastianini for third place. Martinator however, he still remains leader of the world championship with a 21 point margin over the Beast. A nice haul, which can make the #89 smile while waiting for the return to Europe.
A defensive game
“In the race I didn't lose performance as the laps went by, because I set my best time on the 18th lap – Martin explained to Sky Sport MotoGP – but it's clear that we were missing something and Aeneas had something more in the end. Above all I made a mistake on lap 8 or 9 where I lost the gap I was creating. From there Pedro and Marc passed me and then it was more complicated to put everything together. Anyway we had a nice weekend: after the two crashes and after a mediocre qualifying I managed to get a good start and a good race”.
“Aprilia has made a big step – continued the 2023 vice world champion – but I think we had a good level to do well. This is a track that has never come easy to me and I still managed to bring home 20 points, which is what makes me positive and confident ahead of the return to Europe. The level of the 2023 and 2024 bikes is similar: from Saturday to today we worked like last year. Everything is very similar: there is certainly something better, but also worse, we are working on. Acosta? With him it took 4-5 laps and 6 overtaking to get me in front. I fought really hard and I did it, it's a shame about the mistake she made over me, but I'm happy and satisfied with this weekend“.
