José Antonio Casanueva, the grandfather of Marta del Castillo, murdered on January 24, 2009 in Seville and whose body was never found, said this Friday during the Missing Persons Conference that He will continue searching for his granddaughter’s body “as long as God” keeps him alive.
This has been stated during the tribute that his family has received at the opening of the I International Conference on Missing Persons in Seville. Tribute has also been paid to the relatives of the young Valencian Marta Calvo, murdered in 2019.
At 88 years old, Casanueva thanked the recognition and expressed his solidarity with those present, who know what “the loss of a loved one” means. Also has thanked the State security forces for their work and to the authorities”, for the search for the young woman. “We hope that one day we can bury Marta’s body, I will be looking for my granddaughter as long as God keeps me alive,” he stated.
Likewise, Marta del Castillo’s grandfather has expressed his appreciation for the presence of “all the people who have come from abroad.” He assured that throughout these years he has received “letters of relief from France, Germany and Latin America.” “These moments are very hard, you have gone through the same thing as me,” he said. Besides, has encouraged them “to continue fighting for their loved ones”.
The I International Conference on Missing Persons, which opened this Friday, is organized by the European Foundation for Missing Persons (QSDglobal), with the support of the Government of Andalusia and the collaboration of the CNDES (National Center for Missing Persons). The opening event, hosted by actress Helena Kaittani, began with a minute of silence for the victims of DANA in the Valencian towns and with the welcome to the participants by the vice president of the Foundation, Paco Lobatón.
