Marc Marquez yesterday completed a total of 65 laps of the Portuguese Portimao track aboard a Honda RC-213V-S, the commercial model of the Japanese manufacturer’s MotoGP prototype.
The Spaniard missed the last two races of last year, right on the Algarve circuit and in Valencia, due to an accident that occurred while training with an off-road bike. Marc hit his head and a concussion caused a resurgence of the diplopia problem (double vision) which prevented him from completing the 2011 season in Moto2, also that time due to a crash in Malaysia.
Marquez, who spent the winter practically without being able to train even physically, said last Friday that his condition had improved significantly, allowing him to get on a dirt bike last week.
After that first test, the Honda rider stressed that he did not want to forge ahead, and that he still had no intention of guaranteeing his presence at the first tests of 2022 before riding on a real track.
On Sunday, the # 93 completed around 300km, with a final run of 20 laps, practically the distance of a race, which leads us to believe that it will be able to attend a test that will be crucial for the Japanese brand. Even more so if we take into account that the Cervera rider had to give up on the Jerez test last November, which was very important for the development of the 2022 bike.
This morning, Honda sent out a video in which its spearhead talked about the good feeling found in the Algarve, and its desire to continue to progress to try to get to the test on 5-6 February in Sepang as prepared as possible. .
“I feel very happy, first of all to be back on a bike on the track again, also because we were able to confirm the feeling I had on the dirt bike also on the road bike,” said Marquez.
“It was a great relief, because on the saddle I didn’t have any visual discomfort. Since I hadn’t ridden in a long time, I noticed some areas where I lack something physically, but that’s just because I’m not. managed to do the usual pre-season work “.
“There is room for improvement, but the positive thing about this test was to reconfirm the feelings I had when I got on the dirt bike for the first time and that I enjoyed the sensations of speed.”
“I have completed an intense day, with long runs, and I am very happy with the results. We have two weeks before the start of the Sepang tests, so I will take the opportunity to intensify my physical preparation and train on the bike”, he concluded.
