In today’s Spanish sports newspapers, June 4, the front page is understandably dedicated to football: the news of Kylian Mbappe’s signing by Real Madrid is too big to be overshadowed by anything else. But even in the section dedicated to engines, the market dominates: in fact, the titles and attention are all for the Marquez-Ducati-Martin-Aprilia ‘square’ which found its definition yesterday.
First i rumors on the ‘turn’ of Borgo Panigale in the direction of Marc Marquez and then Aprilia’s official announcement that it has hired Jorge Martin with a multi-year contract starting from 2025 they pave the way for a Marquez dressed in red from next year. It is no coincidence that the titles, rather than for Martinator, are all for the eight-time world champion. Particularly tasty and effective is that of AS which underlines how “the ordago” – which can be translated as “the move” but also “the bet – the challenge”, of #93 has borne fruit.

That of the former Honda star, now the spearhead of the Gresini team, was in fact one real forcing towards Ducati. The risk of being left with a handful of flies in hand, however, ended up convincing the Bolognese company to reward Marquez, inflicting yet another disappointment for Martin after that of 2022, when Enea Bastianini was hired in his place alongside Bagnaia.
AS also unveiled a further background according to which Martin, in order to ‘please’ Ducati, would also have agreed to remain in the Pramac team in the event that Marquez succeeded in becoming world champion this year with the GP23. However, the six-time MotoGP world champion would not have liked a solution.
First ‘victory’ of 2024
Hence, precisely, the gamble: Ducati, aware of the risk of losing the Pramac team too, preferred bet on Marquez, complying with his requests and accepting the possibility of losing the current championship leader. While waiting to win his first success of 2024 on the track, Marquez has already achieved one crucial victory for the future and 2025 promises to be a year of fireworks.
