Always the protagonist
Marc Marquez just can't have a calm race in 2024. The Spaniard from the Ducati Gresini team, author of the pole position this morning, was the absolute star – for better or for worse – of the Jerez Sprint. Having started in a less than perfect manner, the eight-time world champion found himself chasing Jorge Martin in the first laps of the short race.
Missed victory
Then, after overtaking his brand mate and compatriot, the #93 looked for the decisive push to score the first success of his career in a short race. In a very particular moment of the race, when in the space of a couple of laps five or six riders fell in line with each other, the former Honda star also slipped a wheel, sliding to the ground and clearing the road to Martin for the success.
Comeback (too) aggressive
Compared to his other rivals, however, Marquez was reactive and lucky and managed to get back on the saddle, at that point starting a frantic comeback in full style Cabroncito. In fact, Marquez made his way by hook and by crook, at one point literally crashing into his former teammate Joan Mir. However, the six-time MotoGP champion was only penalized by being forced to give up one position.
Maneuver carried out to the advantage of Miguel Oliveira's Aprilia Trackhouse but which did not complicate the Ducati rider's recovery plans too much. In fact, Marquez immediately freed himself from the Portuguese and then beat Augusto Fernández in the sprint and grabbed seventh place which is worth three championship points, useful to mitigate – thanks also to the many zeros from his direct opponents – the bitterness for a possible victory once again faded.
