Test-truth in Florida for the RB20
“Five GP weekends, five different circuits, five pole positions for Max Verstappen, four victories. At this point, we can say with some reservations that we have a car that is fast on every type of track“. Thus begins the fourth seasonal column signed by Helmut Marko present on the header speedweek.com.
For now, the RB20 has always achieved pole position with Max Verstappen and in the race it only 'fell' in Australia thanks to the Dutchman's withdrawal and a complicated race for Sergio Perez both in terms of the starting position for a penalty to be attributed to an impediment in Q1 against Nico Hulkenberg and due to a piece of debris which caused the loss of load points and damaged the floor. “Tyre wear in Melbourne was unusually high by Red Bull standards – added Marko in reference to Australia – we don't know exactly whether the damage to Perez's car contributed to this phenomenon. Even the results of the long runs, however, indicate that tire wear was excessive. So this means that the car is fast, yes, but that the road surface and track layout can make a difference.”
According to Marko, it won't be so easy for Red Bull to excel in Miami: “The tracks where the rivals could get a little closer to us are Miami or Monaco, especially in Qualifying the rivals are close, I can imagine that it won't be easy to conquer pole position in Florida“. In China Verstappen had no opponents. The result of the GP held in Shanghai surprised Marko: “We were surprised that this time Lando Norris finished second with McLaren. We expected Ferrari to be strongerbut they didn't manage to get close to the top-3, neither in the long runs, nor in the qualifications, nor in the races.”
